Call for Artists | The Common Thread Gallery

Online Contemporary Art Show

Transformation: Fiber as Medium

Transformation: a thorough, dramatic or marked change in form, nature or appearance; a metamorphosis; a renewal.

The mission is to curate an online exhibit of contemporary fiber artwork rooted in the spirit of feminine energy and creation using traditional materials, structures, and textile processes that focuses on the narrative of the work and its relation to the theme Transformation. The Common Thread Gallery is seeking the best contemporary art and invites submissions that reflect a range of works in the medium of weaving and fiber art.

During our lifetime, fiber art has transformed from a craft medium to a form of conceptual artistic expression without question.

The exhibited works will address the socio, political, and contemporary themes of contemporary art including identity, the body, time, memory, place, language, science, and spirituality. The art will provide content beyond the method of their making.  It will express the personal narrative of each artist and provoke the audience to engage with the work as art.

Juror:  Penny Griffin Lutz is the Director of The Gallery at Penn College, Williamsport, Pennsylvania. Lutz earned a BA from Northern Arizona University, and a MA from Bloomsburg University. She is passionate about the arts and has been involved in the arts sector as a creator, advocate, manager or director for over 20 years.

Transformation is the inaugural exhibit that will launch The Common Thread online art gallery in April 2019.

The Gallery will show and represent the most exceptional artists works using the medium of fiber as an expression of fine art available today.  The selected artists will benefit from the highest quality online exhibit experience in order to show, market and sell their works to a global audience.
